Taber describes herself as a “child at heart” but she is also a mom to her 4 year old and to her business. She has poured her time, heart, and devotion into Fancy & Staple in the Broadway Corridor where you will find “a thoughtful selection of uncommon goods”. Spending time in Fancy & Staple gives you the same feeling you get after hanging out with Taber; you just feel better about the world. “I am here because I want to bring something cool and special to this city that I love. It’s where I am from and have chosen to stay. I love being a small business owner because I make my own rules. This business is me. It’s all about what I love and want to share. It all just pours out of my heart and mind. I have tried to create a place that I always wanted to shop at in Fort Wayne. I would go to other cities and wonder why we couldn’t have a shop like that here. I am so proud to be able to bring it. I chose the Broadway Corridor because when I was a teen, I would hang out here. There was a place across the street where I would spend time with my friends. It was sentimental for me and also close to my home in the 46807. I had and continue to have so much faith in this corridor being something special even before Electric Works was announced. With Electric Works, this corridor is going to be so freaking cool. I think it will add so much to what already exists here. COVID has been hard. I shut down in March and stayed closed for 4 months. I thought about how I would survive. I quickly got everything online and offered free shipping for awhile. I started posting photos of beautiful homes during my delivery trips, and people really took to it. It allowed people to experience areas of Fort Wayne that they missed while feeling distraught at home. It was a great reminder of the beauty of Fort Wayne. I hope that people remember us small business owners (both stores and restaurants) during the holidays. We all offer such cool things that make Fort Wayne unique. I want to do this for the rest of my life so community support is important if I am going to stick around forever. I’m in this for the long haul. I want to keep growing with this city for the rest of my life.” #PeopleofNEI
