Brian has lived in Fort Wayne for the last eight years with his wife of 35 years. They have three children together and decided to move here after his job at General Motors in the Detroit area transferred to Fort Wayne. He is the proud father of three and spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Grand Wayne Convention Center during the 34th Annual Unity Day Celebration. “I moved to Fort Wayne after I was affected by the close down. I chose to see it as an opportunity. It turns out it was the best thing for us and I retired after 19 and 1/2 years. Today, I am helping to tell people about the Knotted Brand that was created by my daughter, Imani. After she got a scholarship to the University of Chicago she came up with the idea to ‘trust your process’ and this is the fruition of that idea. It’s a mindset. Her mom and I were recruited and we assist with things like the presentation today during the Unity Day Celebration. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. meant a great deal to me. He believed in the concepts of nonviolence, assisting poor people, helping your fellow man, and lifting up those around you. That is what he means to me today. It’s all about giving a life of service and giving to those that need help. It’s not just about money but it is about fellowship and giving people dignity. I’m a big union man and I feel that connection with Dr. King. He fought for working people and not just the people at the top. Everyone should be able to live a life of love, support, and creativity. In regard to Fort Wayne, I enjoy my life here and that is because people treat you the way you expect to be treated. If you don’t exude respect of others, it won’t come back to you. I respond to others with love and I give them respect. I try to treat fellow human beings like family. That allows me to keep moving forward. I’m thankful for events like this that allow people to connect and get the word out about their causes. It’s easy to lose Dr. King’s message. Most people only think about his ‘I have a dream’ speech but it’s also about helping your fellow man and helping to pull them up. We are all only as good as our weakest link and that is why we need each other.” #PeopleofNEI
