#PeopleofNEI: Eden, a river advocate

Northeast Indiana is evolving. These are the people shaping its future. #PeopleofNEI

This week's feature:

Eden has been active on the rivers here in northeast Indiana for years. You can find her paddling regularly on the St. Joe River, Maumee River, and St. Marys River. “It all started when I was going to St. Francis University. I would view the rivers from the Rivergreenway Trail. I was so drawn to the water. It is the most natural thing I could be connected to. Our rivers make so much sense for #FortWayne. We have these three beautiful resources, and I continue to try to find ways that I can help. I have always been active in trying to get people on our rivers even if it is just one person at a time. Being out by Ewing Street Bridge looking at the downtown Fort Wayne skyline is a million dollar shot. It’s something I could see in national magazines. This is who we are. This is our blood. Our rivers are our veins running through the core of our city. When I lead groups of paddlers on our rivers, they become friends, and it is all because we went on the rivers together. It creates a bond. That is nature. It is calming and relaxing to feel the water beneath you. It’s so powerful. More importantly, it connects us to a deeper story. When our friends come to town, the first thing we should be talking about is our three rivers. They have to see it and experience it. Now is the time to appreciate our rivers and understand that they really are our pride and joy.” #PeopleofNEI
