Blanca (photographed with her husband Edison by their 100 year old apple tree) is co-owner of Ambrosia Orchard, a 12 acre apple orchard, cidery, and meadery off US 27 just a 15 minute drive south of downtown Fort Wayne in Hoagland, Indiana that was founded in 2018. She talks about her love for southeast Fort Wayne, community, and her orchard. “We just planted 496 trees on the property in May. We have 12 full acres that you can walk, enjoy, and drink on. Our property has a 100 year old apple tree and so much history. We created this because we wanted to offer people more options of things to do, and it is completely family-friendly. I have lived in the area for a dozen years and I love the history of southeast Fort Wayne. It used to be a more popular part of town until so much of the city moved away. There are so many misconceptions about it but I love the people, the history, and the community. We have so many regulars and such great customers from the area. The orchard is just south of Fort Wayne and it’s so gorgeous here. The land is just beautiful. You can shop here for local items. We offer everything from meats to local honey, sodas, and ciders. We press cider in the fall and also have a cold brew. We showcase local artists, too. On Saturdays we have food trucks, and we also have bands twice a month. I think people enjoy the laid back vibe here. It’s very ‘Indiana.’ I was born in the south and I have found what I loved about the south here in northeast Indiana. Everyone is polite and kind and has the same compassion and sense of family. That’s really nice and makes it feel like home. You can have a conversation with anyone. I want to add to that with the orchard. This space is a collaboration that supports the community. I love serving a purpose right here in northeast Indiana.” #PeopleofNEI
