Joe (left) and Luke (right) are owners of Edwin Coe that offers handcrafted spirits from grain harvested in northeast Indiana. They recently had their grand opening for their cocktail lounge. Born and raised in Churubusco, their products are not only the result of their hard work but an opportunity to give back to their town that they love. Their products include Old Coe, vodka, rum, and soft gin. Luke says, “We started working together two and a half years ago. Joe brought me in as a partner. Joe is full-time and I am hoping to go full-time soon. We are serving northeast Indiana to establish our brand but you can also find us in a few places in Indy. We have been picked up by Target, Meijer, and everywhere from Chops to Eddie Merlots. Joe’s middle name is Ed and his grandfather’s name is Coe. He was a Cajun moonshiner that passed away around the age of 90. Our Old Coe recipe is from him. It’s been in the family for years. My grandfather was also involved in prohibition. It’s in our blood. We were both raised within a 100 yards of our facility and everything is locally sourced. We want the community to be a part of this. Our big dream is to also have a farmer’s market here and an event center someday. We have big dreams that we are working hard for. With our cocktail lounge, we don’t want a typical bar atmosphere. We want people from the community to have a laid back place to hang out. This winter we will be open on Friday and Saturdays and then expanding those hours in the spring. I take pride in building everything. Joe and I make the perfect partnership. Joe perfects the recipes and I work on the equipment. There is no better feeling than when we run into people and they tell us that they love everything we make here at Edwin Coe.” #PeopleofNEI
