David is the owner of Downtown Pedicab. He loves Downtown Fort Wayne and biking. His new business allows him to chat with new people each day, show off different areas of downtown, and get people where they need to go quickly and safely. “Doing the pedicab was something I tossed around the idea for about a year ago. It was something that Fort Wayne didn’t have, yet. I live in the downtown area and wanted to get in on the excitement. People have been giving great feedback so far whether I am biking with a parent and child, two adults, or someone with their dog. Right now, I am focusing on the 99 blocks of downtown but after Promenade Park opens in August, I will be riding as far north as Bird + Cleaver and Hop River Brewing. Everyone so far has been great about having me on the road. I was born and raised in the Fort Wayne area. I moved away to Portland, Oregon for a few years and it really impacted my life and business approach. Now, Fort Wayne is so different. It has changed so much since I have been back. 20 years ago, no one wanted to be downtown. Now, everyone wants to be here. I love telling people stories and the history of Fort Wayne while we are riding. Biking is something I’ve done since I was a kid. I still bike with my dad. I’ve done 60 miles rides before and it is just a part of who I am. Fort Wayne is so much more bike-friendly than before especially with the addition of bike lanes. I feel that people are seeing us as equals on the roads now especially on the streets with the bike lanes. I love the different people downtown that I am interacting with from father-daughter dates to people visiting and needing a ride from the Hilton to places like The Deck. The streets are filled with all kinds of great people here. I plan to keep doing this even when it gets cold out. The streets are taken care of and the business can only grow. Things like Electric Works will help me expand my destinations and keeping people connected through the streets. I love offering Fort Wayne something new!” #PeopleofNEI
