#PeopleofNEI: Son Huynh, giving back to the community

Son Huynh was born in South Vietnam and lived there until he was 17 before coming to the United States. His parents and three siblings all became citizens, and he is a graduate of South Side High School and IPFW. He is now a successful realtor and active community member in northeast Indiana. His new goal is to sell a million dollar home and donate the entire commission to Turnstone, an organization that helps people with disabilities. “We lived in South Vietnam and my father was imprisoned for five years. The United States Government offered a program that we qualified for. My parents wanted us to have more opportunity and a stronger future than where we were. When we arrived, we were refugees for five years until we could apply for citizenship. We didn’t have a place to live, jobs, or extra clothes. The community around us helped us. Without that support, we would not be where we are today. That is why I want to give back. There is a great need and I want to do my small part to support the community. I want to sell a million dollar home somewhere in northeast Indiana and then donate the entire commission to Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities. I am committed to my community. I have a wife and two sons; one is in high school and the other is in college. I love the freedoms of being an American. We have a voice and can make progress that helps to inspire others. With this project, I hope to inspire others. People can donate time or skills and not just money. I am hoping that this project will inspire others to donate their time and skills to the community." #PeopleofNEI
