2 Crazy Crystal Guys shares the neighborhood with several beloved, local businesses– Friendly Fox, Antonuccio's Italian Market and Born Again Quilts.
Rod Bice and David Lee, who own the shop, sell crystals, minerals, gemstones and jewelry. Metaphysical supplies including candles, sage, incense, books, tarot and oracles are also available as well as psychic medium readings available only by Bice.

As a niche business, 2 Crazy Crystal Guys is a prime example of how a small business can thrive with community support.
Input Fort Wayne sat down with Rod Bice, co-owner of 2 Crazy Crystal Guys, to learn more about their niche as a crystal business and what makes them stand out to local shoppers.
IFW: What inspired you to open a business focused on crystals and metaphysical supplies?
RB: Rod is a psychic medium and was looking for additional tools to help with protection during readings and tools to help enhance his abilities. Listening to a podcast he learned about the power of crystals.
Once Rod began learning about crystals, he quickly recognized their healing powers and benefits. Rod began collecting and using crystals daily, purchasing them from retail crystal stores, gem and mineral shows, and eventually buying personal collections.
When Rod’s collection outgrew our space David said I had to do something, that something turned into a retail shop. Rod had enjoyed helping others find the right crystals for them and loved seeing the reaction when someone made a connection with a crystal.
Services outside of the retail perspective– Rod provides psychic medium readings onsite and virtually. We will begin offering classes in the summer to include Crystals, Mediumship, Tarot, Reiki, and more.

RB: We opened our first shop in November 2021. This location is one block from our current location. We purchased our current location, completely renovated it, and opened on December 12, 2023. We have been buying, selling, and trading since 2016.
IFW: What has the neighborhood response been to your business?
RB: The neighborhood has been welcoming since opening the original shop in 2021. When we had to move out of the original shop many neighbors tried to help us find a temporary location in the neighborhood. The neighborhood continues to be very welcoming and supportive to us.

RB: Renovation of the interior and exterior of the shop took around 10 months. The owners did the demolition that was needed. Renovations were completed mostly by the contractor, but Rod and David also completed some of the renovations.
David framed out the skylight and Rod built the checkout counter. Rod and David painted the interior and stained all exposed woodwork. The building was originally a dentist’s office and most recently a law office. I believe the building has been vacant since around 2008.
IFW: Can you tell us a little bit about the crystal buying process?
RB: We buy our crystals in a few different ways. We buy from wholesalers who we check to the best of our ability to ensure that the crystals are ethically sourced. (Fair wages, No child labor, etc.). We buy from individual collections that ethically source their crystals. We buy from gem and mineral shows.
IFW: What are some of the rarest crystals you have in stock?
RB: A Triple A Quality Azurite only found in one mine in northern Mexico, Moldavite and Libyan Desert Glass, Larimar – Dominican Republic, Rainbow Hematite on Quartz, Polished Coprolite – Dinosaur Poop, Lunar and Martian Meteorites.

RB: I think everyday crystal practice is different for everyone. Crystals in everyday practice are good for protection, confidence, love, and a multitude of other uses. They can easily be incorporated into the design of an office or home. You can carry them with you throughout the day or you can sleep with them on your nightstand or under your pillow. Crystals good for a novice and beginners, I would recommend Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, Rose Quartz, Smokey Quartz, and Black Tourmaline.
IFW: When someone signs up for a psychic medium reading, what should they expect?
RB: Rod offers psychic medium readings for 30- or 60-minute sessions. The readings are scheduled and offered in person and via Zoom. Rod does many readings for people outside of Indiana.
Expectations for a reading should include: Me providing an overview of how I channel the information, reviewing how the client should handle information after the reading, review the reason the client would like a reading.
I will start the reading and begin providing information, provide clients time to ask spirit or me questions, validate the information they are receiving is correct, and continue the exchange until the reading is complete. The space will have been cleansed prior to the reading and positive energy will be invited in.

RB: We like helping people. When we are able to help a person find that special crystal, seeing their reactions confirms we are doing what we are supposed to be doing.
IFW: What makes your business special or stand out?
RB: Many customers who come into the shop comment about how good the environment feels. We have had people who come to our shop when they are having a bad day to feel better. We protect our shop with protective crystals placed over doors and windows.
We use incense throughout the day to remove any negative energy. The shop’s energy is cleansed at least weekly to remove any negative energies. We go through the shop and burn sage; the smoke is directed into every nook with a feather. Once we burn the sage, we crack the doors to release the negative energy.

RB: Find the right location in a community that is accepting and supportive of your niche business.
IFW: What are some of the challenges you've faced as a business?
RB: Losing our old space without having a new space ready to go into was a big challenge for us. We had to decide if we would find a temporary location or focus on renovating 4007 South Wayne. We decided to focus on 4007 South Wayne and sold items online and in person by appointment at our home. We also set up in front of 4007 South Wayne on the weekends during the summer.

RB: Success for us is developing a solid customer base who are happy with the goods and services we provide, who tell their friends and families about us, and for our shop to have an inviting energy that creates a sense of community.
IFW: What is the next step for your business as far as growth?
RB: Our next steps are to develop a calendar for education and events and to focus more on our online services and sales.
