Cinema Center unveils a cinematic extravaganza: Must-attend events, programming, and more in 2024

At Fort Wayne Cinema Center, the magic of film takes on a new dimension. With an array of exciting ventures and unmissable experiences lined up for 2024, Cinema Center is set to redefine the cinematic landscape in Fort Wayne. Here's a sneak peek into the cinematic wonders awaiting you:

1. "20 Days in Mariupol" - A Glimpse into the Heart of Ukraine's Struggle

February 3, 2024 @  2 PM  - Free Admission
Step into the heart-wrenching reality of Ukrainian journalists trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol in "20 Days in Mariupol." Nominated for Best Documentary Feature, 96th Academy Awards, this film captures the harrowing images of war, urging us not to forget the plight of Ukrainians. Join the Cinema Center and PBS Distribution for a one-time screening, followed by an in-person Q&A with the filmmakers moderated by Dr. Ann Livschiz.

2. Oscar Party 2024 - Where Glitz Meets Giving

March 9, 2024, from 6 PM - 10 PM
Don't miss Fort Wayne Cinema Center's annual Oscar Party, a glamorous fundraiser featuring a red carpet, delectable hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction curated by the Cinema Center Board of Directors. PUNCH Films adds a touch of magic with their high-speed camera, capturing slow-motion videos of attendees in their party attire. Join the celebration and support the cinematic arts.

3. Black LGBTQ+ Shorts: A Collection by Daniella’s Guestbook

We are super excited to work with Daniella’s Guestbook to bring a collection of shorts from emerging Black LBGTQ+ filmmakers this year as Cinema Center continues to create space for short films year-round. Presented by GLAAD and SpecialGuest, this selection has made its way from New York City premiering at NeueHouse, the global stage online, and now locally inside our doors! Stay tuned after the lineup of shorts for a conversation with Producer Harris Doran on the importance of allyship in the entertainment industry.

4. Subtitle Sundays - Enhancing the Cinematic Experience

Do you turn on captions when watching TV at home? Now, every Sunday at Fort Wayne Cinema Center, English captions will automatically accompany films (whenever available) ensuring a more inclusive and accessible cinematic experience for all.

5. Arch Lecture Series - A Journey through Fort Wayne's Rich History

Back by popular demand, the Arch Lecture Series returns to the Spectator Lounge, featuring talks on various captivating topics:
  • February 17 @ 1 PM. - “Himself When Young” by Connie Haas Zuber
  • March 16 @ 1 PM- “Gems of Downtown Fort Wayne” by Karen Richards
  • April 20 @ 1 PM- “Myaamiaki neehi Myaamionki: Miami People and Miami Land” by Logan York
  • May 18 @  1 PM- “Sears Houses in Fort Wayne” by Karen Richards

6. Broken Pencil Improv - Spontaneity Unleashed

Since November 2023, Fort Wayne’s only Improv Troupe, Broken Pencil Improv, has made Cinema Center its home. Experience spontaneous laughter and unpredictable hilarity at their upcoming shows in the Spectator Lounge. Unscripted and unforgettable, each performance promises a night of unbridled comedy.

From "Poor Things'' to "2024 Oscar Nominated Shorts'' and thought-provoking films like "Origin" with a conversation on the importance of Black women and femmes in media; followed by a series of “Black LQBTQ+ Short Films: A Collection by Daniella’s Guestbook”, Cinema Center always has something special on the screen. 8. Creator Space: 2024 Plans - Fostering Creativity and Collaboration
